Newswise Italy
NewsWise, an award-winning digital news literacy program for primary schools by The Guardian Foundation, is now coming to Italy. The aim of NewsWise is to cultivate a generation of young citizens capable of thinking critically and making informed decisions.
The project
NewsWise Italy will target students in the fourth and fifth grades and their teachers, offering a program structured around three areas:
1) Understanding the news
2) Critical thinking
3) Creating a mini-newsroom in the classroom
The educational resources, adapted to the Italian context, are easy to integrate into the school curriculum and include materials for both teachers and students, such as lesson plans, infographics, posters, presentations, and group activities.
The effectiveness of the NewsWise program has already been proven in the UK, where it has involved nearly 4,000 primary school teachers and reached more than 17,000 students, earning prestigious international awards.
The NewsWise methodology provides the necessary tools to distinguish between true and false information over the long term. The research also found a positive correlation between increased news literacy skills and civic participation.
Funding
The project was realised with the support of The Guardian Foundation.
Partnership
The project NewsWise Italy was made possible through the collaboration with The Guardian Foundation and Reggio Children.
